Как сообщает The Hollywood Reporter, студия Twentieth Century Fox приобрела права на экранизацию комиксов «Флэш Гордон», первый выпуск которых вышел в 1934 году.

Сценаристами картины назначены Джон Д. Пэйн и Патрик Маккей, продолжающие работу над блокбастером «Звездный путь 3». Функции продюсера возьмет на себя Джон Дэвис («Хищник», «Я, робот»). Сценарную заявку, которая станет основой текста Пэйна и Маккея, оформил Джордж Нолфи («Ультиматум Борна»).

Популярный комикс породил несколько сериалов и картину «Флэш Гордон», роли в которой исполнили Сэм Дж. Джоунс, Тимоти Далтон,Макс фон Сюдов и Орнелла Мути. Саундтрек к фильму 1980 года написала группа Queen.

Голливудские кинокомпании долгие годы пытались перезагрузить франшизу, а права на экранизацию успели побывать у студий Universal, Mandalay и Sony.
