Xeon and core have the same pinouts afaik, the only real difference being in the instruction sets and available ECC memory. There is some the Core have that Xeons don't, and vice versa. For most home user PC's especially gaming, the instructions in the Core are better suited, for workplace/visual effects type home users, the Xeons are better suited. But for the most part, they are pretty much equitable. An x3470 is pretty much equitable to an i7 870, at 2.93GHz, the only better lga1156 would be the i7 880 at 3.07GHz. Then there's the i7 875k which has an unlocked multiplier.
And, of course, many Xeons lack integrated graphics, making a dedicated GPU a must.
