Submerged in the ocean are purple shells that stay tightly shut when outsiders are around. This is the outside of the bivalve musu Shellder. The inside of said shell contains their soft purple bodies. Shellder dwell in most oceans surrounding kanto. There they tend to keep to themselves as the musu is wary of strangers. Since they don't like to leave their shells, they use their long tongues to gather information from their surroundings. Said tongue is so sensitive that it can detect changes in the ocean faster and more accurately than magic measurements can. Sailors tried to keep Shellder a secret at first. This is because Shellder produce pearls as a hobby. Which the sailors would acquire and resell for massive profits. However with no explanation of where they got the pearls, they couldn't sell them and had to come clean. Shellder have an unusual relationship with Slowpoke. They have an attraction to Slowpoke's nectar and will bite their tails as they soak in water. Doing this will drastically change Shelter's appearance and they'll become much less responsive. After separation from a Slowpoke, they return to normal but have little memory of the change at^all ■Trainer Tips It takes a great deal of patience to earn the trust of a Shellder but it is possible to "get through their shell" with kindness and persistence. Sometimes when a Shellder makes a pearl from sand they'll create a wa-terstone instead. This elementally charged material sparks a change in Shellder, transforming them into Cloyster. This change gives them a second inner shell that shapes their body into an exaggerated hourglass figure and gives their outer shell sharp points. If you're in waters where a Cloyster live. They will make sure you know it. This is because the ostentatious mu-su loves to be the center of attention and show off their exceptional skills whenever possible.
