Gunblade N.Y. & L.A. Machineguns Arcade Hits Pack (Wii),Games,,Loading times were removed for your consideration and enjoyment. I decided to shift my attention a little bit to what I believe is one of the most underrated consoles, the Nintendo Wii. I had always seen L.A. Machineguns in the arcade back in the day, but never had any desire to play it. It actually looked kinda dumb to me at the time versus other games like Virtua Cop and House of the Dead which appeared to be more involving since you had to think about reloading your gun and not shooting innocent people. L.A. Machineguns just seemed totally mindless......and sometimes it is but as it turns out it is alot of fun. I first played L.A. Machineguns with my wife at an arcade about 3 years ago while I was on vacation in Florida. After playing it once I couldn't stop playing it until all my tokens were gone. The game's fast pace mixed with that gun that recoiled at the launch of each bullet was just too much fun. After we left the arcade, I thought "Why in the world is that game NOT on the Wii?" About a year later I see an announcement that it was in fact being ported to the Wii. Much to my surprise, not much was lost in translation even though one of the best parts is now missing. The gun from the arcade. I'm not going to say nothing was lost but certainly not as much as I thought. The rumble of the Wii remote is set up kind of clever to where you only feel rumble when your bullets hit something like an enemy, ground, or water. If you are shooting at the sky you feel nothing since the Wiimote cannot even come close to reproducing the kind of recoil that the gun in the arcade had. It actually works better than if the rumble was constant for some reason. Also both games run in native 16:9 ratio instead of 4:3 in the arcade. The graphics are still beautiful to this day. Gunblade N.Y. is not as stunning as L.A. Machineguns since Gunblade ran on Sega's model 2 hardware and L.A. Machineguns ran on Model 3. I haven't talked much about Gunblade simply because I have had no history with it prior to playing it in this compilation, however that does not mean that Gunblade is any lesser of a game. Only in graphics does it trail behind L.A. Machineguns but is still equally as fun and certainly makes this compilation even more valuable. The only think that these games have might going against them is the fact that credits are unlimited. Some may say the games are too short and easy. In the menu you can select 1 of 3 difficulty levels. Normal, hard, and expert. I play both of these games on hard in this capture. The game gets harder but you still have unlimited credits. However you can offset this by not being a pansy and limiting your credits or try to make it through on one. The game does reward you with things like even faster rapid fire for doing well. Not sure if there are others yet. Bottom line is that this is a fantastic arcade compilation. The game feels better using a gun shell like the Zapper or the Thrustmaster (the one I have). Though you don't feel the heavy recoil that the arcade had, you can help compensate for this by turning the volume up loud on a well adjusted sound system. Ask me how I know :)
